Adolescent and Family Therapy
Adolescence is a time of growth, discovery, and change—but it can also feel overwhelming. Teens today face pressures from school, friendships, social media, identity exploration, and the uncertainty of the future. Many struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, or stress that affects their school, relationships, and overall well-being.
Therapy provides adolescents with a safe, confidential space of their own to explore feelings, build coping skills, and navigate challenges. At the same time, family therapy can help improve communication, reduce conflict, and strengthen trust and connection within the household. Often, a combination of individual and family sessions provides the most support—honoring the teen’s need for autonomy while fostering a healthier family system.
Common challenges teens may face include:
Anxiety, panic, or excessive worry
Depression, low mood, or withdrawal
Difficulty managing emotions or anger
School-related stress, academic pressure, or burnout
Social challenges with peers or friendships
Identity questions, including gender, sexuality, or self-concept
Body image concerns or self-esteem struggles
Coping with grief, trauma, or loss
Family conflict, communication challenges, or boundaries
Exposure to bullying, social media pressures, or cyber issues
Navigating transitions, such as moving, divorce, or changes at home
Therapy helps teens and families develop tools to manage these challenges, improve communication, and strengthen relationships—creating a foundation for resilience, confidence, and connection.
Since opening my practice in 2010, I have been working closely with adolescents and their families, supporting them through the unique challenges of teen years and family dynamics. My experience is grounded in specialized adolescent clinical training, including my work with Teen Line, a teen crisis hotline where I learned to listen deeply, provide immediate support, and respond effectively to the urgent emotional needs of teens. This training strengthened my skills in crisis intervention, active listening, and creating a safe, non-judgmental space—skills I continue to bring to my work with teens and their families today.
Although I don’t have teenagers myself yet—my oldest is just entering the tweens—I understand the challenges and joys of parenting and the importance of guiding children and teens with empathy, structure, and support. My clinical experience allows me to bridge the perspectives of both parents and adolescents in a way that fosters connection, understanding, and growth.
